What’s in a name? — Her Shakti

It was June 2018.

My son had just turned One.

So I hit that milestone as a mother.

I remember I couldn’t sleep this one night.

I was restless.

I was an exhausted one year old mom.

I did not feel the joy or flow in my day job.

I knew I was in the grind for the paycheck (or stock options).

(And for visa stability #immigrantlife)

But something came over me that night.

And in a split second, I made a commitment.

I decided I am starting a project, an initiative, a company!

And it was going to be awesome.

And it was going to help women.

And this is where I was going to find my flow. My purpose. My joy.

These inspiring thoughts picked me up like an espresso double shot!

Something in me or someone above me whispered — “Shakti”.

I think it was my higher self, that I had been disconnected for 35 years of my life.

But again, I don’t know where that voice came from.

I vividly remember exclaiming. “Yes!”

It felt so right.

So perfect.

And I hadn’t a clue as to why.

I decided I am going to name my passion project — “Shakti”

I journaled that night.

I didn’t sleep very much.

Next morning at work, while my coworkers watched me yawn incessantly.

I complained that my son didn’t sleep very well the previous night. (Oops I lied.)

But in my heart I knew, Shakti was born.

At least in my mind.

Fast forward two years and here we are.

I have a website www.hershakti.co !

Pretty cool, right?!

Now, growing up in India, I understood “Shakti” to mean “power” , “energy” or “strength”.

This is perhaps the literal meaning in Hindi, India’s national language.

But unknowingly, I think I have been drawn to its spiritual meaning all my life.

And I am embarrassed to admit I did not know about, even though I am from the land of mystic goddesses.

Shakti is that cosmic feminine energy, that divine dynamic force that moves and exists in the entire universe. Shakti is power, the power within all our life experiences. Shakti is manifested within our female bodies as creativity, as fertility…

Shakti exists in YOU!

As the divine goddess that is waiting to be re-awakened!

Here is my interpretation of “Shakti”.
